When it came to choosing a hotel for my four-day trip to Las Vegas, there really was no contest. The Wynn Las Vegas synonymous with jet-setters, celebrities, royalty and those celebrating weddings, anniversaries or umm very special birthdays topped my hotel list.
From the moment I walked through the doors of the hotel, it completely blew me away. From the sheer luxury dripping from the walls to the 80s soundtrack which resonated throughout the 45-storey hotel had my eyes sparkling with glee. With it being Thanksgiving weekend many of the shared areas resembled a beautiful festive wonderland too.
Casino magnate Steve Wynn has done an outstanding job creating an elegant casino resort. No mean feat where themed, fun yet tacky hotels come as standard.
The curved copper tone high-rise is filled with an array of bold floral mosaic floors, marble walkways, sumptuous carpeting and eye-catching floral installations. All of which add to its opulent charm.
Between the Wynn and its sister hotel Encore you have a choice of 5,000 luxury hotel rooms, suites and villas. Considering we wouldn’t be spending much time in the room, we booked a standard in the main hotel. It will set you back a $170 – 240 per night depending on the time of year. All the rooms are large and lavish and boast floor-to-ceiling windows, signature Steve Wynn beds with 320 thread count European linens, spacious bath areas, bedside drapery controls and flatscreen LCD TVs in the rooms and bathroom.
The hotel has a number of fine dining and casual eateries. An understatement to say you’re spoilt for choice. Our favourites were Allegro for midnight munchies. Correction – 3am. They made the best veggie chilli pizza. The thought of it even now has me salivating, For breakfast we ventured down to the Terrace Pointe Cafe every morning and indulged in lazy grazing by the patio. You’ll get eggs any which way you like with a view of the wonderful pool area.
Of course no Vegas hotel is complete without high-end shopping. And the Wynn truly does not disappoint. Walking up and down the Esplanade you’ll be greeted by Louis Vuitton, Dior, the only Alexander McQueen in Las Vegas, the second Manolo Blahnik store in the country and many more eye-watering price tag stores.
I was lucky enough to experience the Wynn Spa for a birthday massage gift from my friends one afternoon. The epitome of relaxation, as soon as you enter the lounge rest area you’re greeted with a huge fireplace, dim lighting and cosy couches. It houses a steam room, jacuzzi, waterfall showers, plunge pool and sauna. Prepare for time to escape you here.
To top off my luxe afternoon I headed to the Claude Baruk Salon for a blow dry. He brings his expertise from Saint Tropez to the Wynn and Encore salons.
A member of his talented stylist team worked their magic on my barnet and I walked out with a Farah Fawcett swish to my hair. Oh and lets not forget $90 lighter. Ouch! Expensive, but worth it.
Many people come to Vegas for one thing only – The gambling. I dabbled. Won and then lost it all. The thrill of the possible big win did leave me hanging around the tables for longer than I planned. The Wynn like all the casinos in Vegas use ways to keep you seated at the table splashing the cash.
Firstly no matter the time it’ll always look like daylight in the casino with the no windows and clever lighting tricks. Then, your eyes won’t shut never mind how tired you are. All down to the pumped oxygen in the room. Lastly, free drinks! Yeah this is a good one, as long as you’re over 21 the hostess will take your order and bring your favourite tipple. Just don’t forget to tip her a buck or two.
My four days at the Wynn Las Vegas were amazing. The hotel is so huge, it was impossible to experience everything it has to offer in four days. Ensconced in the lap of luxury it had us believing we were in Ocean’s Eleven. Apart from the fact that we were nine and this was the Wynn not Bellagio, I think we cracked the shot! No? This is one stay I won’t be forgetting in a hurry.
