Is there anything better to celebrate the season of indulgence than with a decadent and delectable afternoon treat? I think not, especially when it’s sprinkled with a dash of sparkly Christmas cheer.
Guests at Aqua Shard this season can indulge in a festive twist to the afternoon tea. When an invite arrived to try it with a group of bloggers before the big reveal. Well, it was too good to refuse. Their incredibly successful Mary Poppins afternoon tea is a firm favourite of our household, so expectations were high.
Disclosure: I was a guest of Aqua Shard and my afternoon tea was complimentary , however all views, opinions and photos are my own and remain a copyright of the Curious Pixie.
The typically grey November day didn’t interrupt the spectacular views which never disappoint from the 31st floor of the Shard. Our table was perfectly positioned to drink in the panoramic city views.
It began how all afternoon teas should with a glass of Veuve Clicquot. My taste buds were yearning for a strong pot of the finest English Breakfast tea but there were also some floral numbers, mint teas and cappuccinos ordered.
We tucked into an array of finger sandwiches which included two festive flavours, fig chutney and brie along with a cranberry, turkey and lettuce sandwich. There was also roasted peppers, aubergine and hummus on brown bread and a classic cheese and pickle sandwich for the veggies. Plus a cute mini crumpet with smoked salmon.
The egg and black truffle sandwich easily took the savoury crown. Creamy egg with the just the right amount of earthy, nutty tones. I could have easily ate a plateful to myself.
Freshly baked vanilla scones followed with homemade cranberry and apple jam as well as lashings of Cornish clotted cream. They’re big, crunchy on the outside and fluffy inside. Sticking to one was tough as the eyes had already landed on the other scrumptious sweet treats.
The tempting and deliciously sweet delicacies all brandish a festive spin. A gingerbread, milk chocolate and coffee Christmas tree was devoured in record time.
There is also a light and tasty clementine and Prosecco trifle; for all those who have been good all year round a dark chocolate and cherry present and a charming pear and cinnamon Santa hat.
Start your Yuletide season with Aqua Shard’s festive afternoon tea. It’s available now until the 30th December 2019, Monday – Sunday between 1pm – 5pm. Priced at £49 and £67 with a glass of Veuve Clicquot ‘Yellow Label’ Brut Champagne.
Go on…We all deserve a treat once in a while.
