Quaglino’s Bar – An aperitif or two

Quaglino’s is a swanky Mayfair restaurant and late night party spot, which oozes the decadent air of the 1930s. We were there for neither of these delights on our visit…

It was all about the pre-dinner drinks for this evening. Four child-free adults (with slightly crazed eyes) headed straight for the glamorous watering hole. You’re certainly spoilt for choice at Quaglino’s, it has not one but two bars. The Q bar, a show stopping circular bar in the middle of the restaurant.

And then the iconic balcony bar, where we spent our early evening. Perfect for people watching.

There is an amazing choice on the impressive drinks menu, including some with home-made ingredients.

Decision-making on the tipple front was not easy. From legendary cocktails with a twist to a fine list of classic and champagne cocktails taken from Quaglino’s rich 1930’s heritage.

The lively atmosphere and recent revamp shows that it’s not short on style. The colour palettes and furniture again hark back to the era when it was founded by Giovanni Quaglino in 1929.

My evening began with Poppy’s Pears – Belvedere vodka shaken with St. Germain Elderflower liqueur, Cointreau and fresh lime juice topped with soda. It was a fine choice with the right level of sweetness.

My fellow alcohol consumers for the evening opted for a Tanqueray 10 martini, an old fashioned made with Woodford reserve…

…and a seductive looking espresso martini. Maybe it’s just me, but I get seduced a lot by these delightful caffeine bombs of joy.

Live music is performed almost every night of the week. The stage in the past has been graced by the likes of Beverley Knight and Eliza Doolittle. They also have a late license to keep their doors open until 3am on weekends. It makes Quaglino’s the perfect spot for drinks, dinner and entertainment. Your one-stop Mayfair shop.

The knowledgeable and charming bartenders…

…shook up another delicious cocktail of the champagne variety. It had to be The Mayfair Lady, of course. Made with Zubrowka vodka, St Germain elderflower cordial, lychee juice, fresh lemon juice and topped with house fizz. Simply delicious.

Amazing what fancy cocktails and a couple of hours from your crazy, loveable offspring can do…

…no more crazed eyes. Just hazy.

We were all so swept away with the great ambience that we almost forgot about our dinner reservation (more on that in a later post).

All I know is, next time I’ll be staying for dinner.

Oh love! So delish. Try counting espresso martini’s going down into your mouth instead of sheep jumping fences 🙂

I’m a tad partial to elderflower. It’s the first time I’d been since their major revamp and they’ve done a great job x
