If you don’t fancy jostling the crowds at the Chelsea Flower Show, how about relaxing with a floral cocktail on the 31st Floor of London’s skyscraper The Shard? Sounds good, right?

Dining At The Shard
This year Aqua Shard have launched the Floral Five menu in celebration of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. In collaboration with Camellia’s Teahouse the exclusive menu of not only five cocktails, but also five teas and five desserts have been created around five iconic Britishflowers.
Invited for a preview of the tantalising menu I was lucky enough to sample everything on the menu and left a very happy lady indeed.
Tea at the Aqua Shard
The afternoon began with a masterclass in tea tasting with Amanda from Cameilla’s Teahouse, a Certified ITEI Tea Sommelier. Their five unique tea blends have been incorporated into each item on the Floral Five menu bringing a summery freshness to every mouthful.
You have the Blue Mallow Blend, which is a medium bodied black tea with rose petals, rose hip and blue mallow flowers. It left a sweet lingering flavour of freshly picked roses. The light herbal infusion of the Elderflower Blend, was a combination of chickweed, red clover, elderflower, nettle, dandelion, marigold, chamomile and rose buds.
An elegant and well balanced Lavender Blend was a personal favourite, the Chinese black brings together lavender, rose petal and bergamot. Well known for its calming effects, apparently it can help reduce inflammation and boost immune health.
There is a green tea on the menu in the form of a Marigold Blend, with lemongrass, marigold and lemon peel. And finally a Rosebud Blend, which was Rosebud, ginger and liquorice- the warmth of ginger notes were a winner.
The Shard cocktails
Soon it was time to delve into the mouthwatering cocktails containing one of the five tea blends. This is what your taste buds can expect:
Twilight – McQueen & The Violet Fog Gin, Procrastination liqueur, marshmallow syrup, verjus and blue mallow tea.
Solstice spritz – Hendrick’s Midsummer Solstice Gin, elderflower cordial, framboise liqueur, soda and Cava.
Lavender fields – Absentroux Absinthium, Tanqueray Gin, lemon juice, rose syrup and ginger water.
Golden blush – Ciroc Red Berry, lemongrass syrup and marigold tea
Rosy fever – White port, Hysterie liqueur, grapefruit sac and liquorice bitters.
The floral themed cocktails are beautifully presented and within the five on offer there is something for everyone’s palate. A favourite was the Rosy Fever, so smooth it was like drinking summer from an ice cold glass.
Desserts at The Shard
The final round of treats were the five perfectly paired desserts which each of the tea blends. Prepare yourself to be bamboozled by the choice:
Raspberry and rose shortcake, with deliciously crumbly base and creamiest rose patisserie.
Elderflower panna cotta, which took me by surprise as I’m usually not keen on the gelatinous texture of a panna cotta. This one however was sublime.
Dark chocolate mousse with bergamot curd and lavender ice cream which went down a treat.
Lime posset green tea sorbet which was crowned with a lemongrass granita, green tea sorbet, candied lemon and black sesame brittle – utterly refreshing.
And number one for me had to be the ginger cake with liquorice ice cream with slither of poached pear and pear gel – I could have indulged in seconds!
The Floral Five menu is a wonderful way to experience the blossoming
And the best thing, the menu runs throughout summer so gather your friends and family and enjoy the floral delights. The cocktails are £18 each, desserts £9 and the teas are £5.50. Go get your summer on peeps!
