Looking to whisk someone off their feet and surprise them with a romantic holiday?
We have one day a year where we’re conditioned to shower our loved ones with flowers, chocolates, soppy teddy bears and various other commercial consumables. However, I believe you should celebrate love everyday not on one dedicated day. And travel is the perfect way to treat a loved one whenever your heart desires.
Romantic holidays abroad
So whether you’re a lover of snow or sand, city or village these picturesque destinations are bound to make you swoon. I’ve been lucky enough to travel to them all, so can guarantee you’ll be lovestruck on arrival. It’s time to feel the love people all year round!
The Maldives
For the sun seekers
The most far-flung on my list and a bucket list destination for the young and old. With a remote location about 500 miles southwest of Sri Lanka in the Indian Ocean. Overwater bungalows, secluded beaches, the most epic sunsets, and over 1,000 coral islands – the list is endless. The Maldives will never disappoint, even when it rains.

Cyprus
For the legend hunters
Birthplace of love itself. The Mediterranean island of Cyprus is the home to Petra tou Romiou, also known as Aphrodite’s Rock. Fabled birthplace of the goddess of love, it has to be one of the most romantic travel destinations.
With a fascinating history, stunning coastlines, mountain wineries, and a cultural hotspot, this island is more than just a beach destination. Combine this with all the delicious Cypriot food, it’s the perfect place for a spot of romance.

Paris
For the classic lovers
An obvious one for the list and a tad cliché. Nevertheless, there is no escaping the fact that Paris evokes romance. Explore by foot the smaller bohemian neighborhoods, indulge your sweet tooth in the delicious patisseries, and have the time of your life in the City of Light. In the words of Audrey Hepburn, ‘Paris is always a good idea’.

Kerala
For the relaxation fans
Traveling to an exotic location is a perfect surprise. Kerala is a paradise for couples with its pristine beaches, lush tropical forests, intricate web of backwaters, beautiful hill stations, and ayurvedic treatments.
You’re in God’s Own Country as it’s known so no doubt you’ll return with wonderful memories and experiences.

Salzburg
For music lovers
If alpine views and quaint, cobblestoned streets weren’t enough, there are exquisite gardens and spas too.
It’s also the city of music! A pilgrimage for The Sound of Music fans, the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and the home of the Salzburg Festival, one of the largest classical music festivals in the world since 1920. Salzburg will have your ears abuzz with sweet notes.
If you plan your visit over the winter break, the Christmas Markets are a magical hit.

The Dolomites
For the gourmet foodies
The Italian Dolomites are a great destination all year round. Well known for its skiing in the winter and hiking in the summer, it’s also a favourite haunt for foodies.
Culinary delights await your arrival. South Tyrol has the highest density of Michelin stars of any Italian province, so a trip here guarantees an incredible mouth-watering break.

Iceland
For the geography nerds
Aptly named the land of fire and ice, Iceland is home to volcanoes, waterfalls and hot springs as well as stunning architecture and delicious food. And can’t forget the Northern Lights, best seen in the darker months of September through to April.
The summer months bring a whole new host of activities and landscapes once the snow melts. Striking black lava fields, horse treks and lava tubing. For a photogenic and breathtaking destination, Iceland is definitely the one for those searching for spectacular natural beauty.

Great choice of romantic destinations – I went to Athens last year (just happened to be there on Valentines Day) and for this reason must say Cyprus appeals to me from the list!
I’ve not been to Athen’s, very romantic indeed being their for Valentine’s.
Such gorgeous destinations!
Thanks Angie!
I need to get my hubby to take me to Kerala. I went there years ago on my own before I met him and would love to go back.
Start working on him…it’s a MUST!
Fabulous destinations, and I have been lucky enough to go to a few. can you believe that I have never been to Paris though?? For some reason, we have just never got there (other than Disneyland Paris). Iceland is another longed for destination for me too. Love these destinations Sima x
Kerry! Get on that Eurostar…Paris has to be top of your travel list now. Iceland is just incredible, but Paris first!
Great selection! This sun seeker has never been to the Maldives, can you believe it? And we just happen to have our 20th anniversary coming up next year…
Ohh Sarah! I think you know what to! Congratulations lovely x
I love how you included South Tyrol as a foodie destination – I wholeheartedly agree! The blend of Alpine and Italian cuisine is just the best. I’d throw in a romantic wilderness holiday in Scotland – nothing better than the grand mountains of the Highlands!
The way to my heart is food, South Tyrol is a MUST. I love Scotland, I need to do more travelling around the Highlands.
These destinations look beautiful. I’m desperate to explore Salzburg properly. Bx
