Is there anything better than those long summer days spent with family? Days where you can plan every moment and adventure down to the last detail and make the most of the glorious weather. It’s my favourite time of the year for sure. However, if you have little ones you’ll know that even if you plan your day with military precision, there’s usually something that always gets forgotten, or left behind!
Essential family travel items

The last thing you want is to reach your destination and realise you’ve forgotten something. So, I’ve put together a list of essential travel items that go in my day bag, or I take along with me to ensure that our day out runs smoothly and is enjoyed by everyone!
A fully charged camera/smartphone
Days out with family are all about making memories and having them displayed for everyone to see – check out hello canvas for the latest photo printing ideas – and I know from experience that it’s absolutely gutting to realise you can’t capture any of those precious moments due to low battery or a forgotten camera. If you’ve been up since the crack of dawn with the kids, chances are you might have drained your smartphone battery quite a lot by the time you head out, so make sure you have it fully charged before you leave. Not only for your memories but also in case you need to make an emergency call.
A sun protection pack
We all know how dangerous the sun’s rays can be and how important it is to keep ourselves and our little ones sensitive skin protected. Forgetting your sun protection is a sure fire way to ruin your day so I like to put together a sun protection pack and have it either in the car, or by the front door. A bag containing a high factor sun cream, sun hats, sunglasses and reusable bottles of water is ideal. That way you can relax safe in the knowledge that your kids are safe and hydrated in the sun.
Never underestimate the fury of a child with tummy rumbles. It’s enough to put a dampener on the whole day. So, even if you’re heading out for a family picnic, don’t be afraid to pack a couple of extra snacks for the journey. Crackers, raisins, fruit, breadsticks, cereal bars, water – they’re all valuable items that can literally save the day!
Your sense of fun
It’s understandable to feel a tantamount of pressure during your family days out. You want the kids to have wonderful, happy memories and for everyone to have a good time no matter what! Although sometimes by putting too much pressure on ourselves we lose sight of our own enjoyment and become stressed and anxious. Remember to always pack your sense of fun, and if things go wrong – so be it! Laugh about it and enjoy spending time with your little ones, that way you’ll all have a summer to remember for all the right reasons.
